The Troy Buchanan High School Lady Trojans finished third in the Parkway West Classic, defeating Marquette 51-46. Madeline Thoroughman led Troy with 20 points. Leading 33-31 after three periods, Troy held on for the win with an 18-15 edge in the final period. Taylor Campbell and Ashley Ploudre led the Lady Mustangs with 16 and 12 points respectively.
In the semi-finals, Ursuline, leading 28-21 at the half, raced to a 35-24 scoring edge in the second half enroute to a 63-45 win over Troy. Haley Meyer led Troy with 10 points with Alyssa Schrader following with nine points. Heather Pesigan led the Lady Bears with 19 points followed by Hannah Weisbrod and Sammy Warren with 18 and 17 points each.
“I was pleased with the effort to come back on Friday and finish with third,” said Coach Bryce Gregory. “Thursday night against Ursuline, they really took it out of us physically and mentally. We really played hard the entire game. Madeline (Thoroughman) really had a big game scoring a game high 20 points and had 17 rebounds to go along with five assists. She really brought a lot of energy the entire game. I was happy to see her explode for a big game like that. Hopefully this will get her going the rest of the season.”
Thoroughman was named to the all tournament team.
Currently Troy has a 7-5 and heading in the right direction, said Gregory. Conference play starts Monday, Jan. 14 against Francis Howell Central. “We really match up well with all teams in our conference and look to be a strong favorite and finish at the top of the pack,” said the coach.
