Marriage licenses filed in county available through county website

Lincoln County Recorder of Deeds Dottie Crenshaw continues to upgrade the services provided to the public by her staff.

She announced last week the addition of recorded Lincoln County marriage licenses to the county website. The information available remotely currently ranges from Jan. 1, 1993 to the current date.

Ms. Crenshaw reported her staff works every day at indexing and scanning in prior years’ licenses. As a year is completed, the “search date” will be updated.

“I prefer to have my staff index the information to insure accuracy of the data,” she said. “When work is outsourced, it is difficult to insure the information was entered correctly. We prefer to perform the work ourselves. This is a huge project. Lincoln County marriage licenses date back to November, 1825. We have made great strides in data entry. I am very proud of my staff.

This new service is provided by the current software so there is no additional costs to the county taxpayers to develop this new program.

In order to access the marriage license database, access the Lincoln County website by entering www.lcmo.us. Click on “Recorder.” Then click on “Marriage License.” A user must register with a credit card. The credit card will NOT be charged until a purchase is made. A search may be performed without any charge.

The information is indexed by the name of the “groom” and “bride.” A copy of the marriage license must be purchased in order to view it. The cost is $1 per page. At the end of the purchase, a transaction fee will be charged in the amount of $1.50.

“I am so excited about this addition to our website,” said Reporter Crenshaw. “We receive a lot of requests from citizens interested in genealogy research. I think this will be a popular tool.”

Jean Eberhard was the project manager with Judy Ryan, Sara Schroeder, Lyn Cronk and Tiffani Fomera participating in data input.
