Schieffer to seek Senate nomination

State Rep. Ed Schieffer of the 41st District announced at the Missouri Democrat Days at the Hannibal Inn, that he will seek the Democratic nomination to the 10th Senatorial District in 2014. The 10th Senatorial District includes six counties: Audrain, Callaway, Lincoln, Monroe, Montgomery and Warren.

The current senator, Jolie Justus, is termed out after 2013. This upcoming election will be the first opportunity for voters to elect a senator in this recently reorganized district. Rep. Schieffer is in his last term representing Lincoln County in the House of Representatives. His committees include: Transportation; Agriculture Policy; Agri-Business; Appropriations-Revenue, Transportation and Economic Development, as well as the Joint Committee on Transportation Oversight. Rep. Schieffer is the Democratic Ranking Member on the Agriculture Policy and Transportation Committees.

Schieffer is known as a conservative “blue dog” Democrat and is running as a conservative consumer candidate.
