Recommendations and guidelines for temporary food service establishments are constantly being evaluated. What better way to keep up to date, then to attend a Certified Food Handlers Class at the Lincoln County Health Department. It is a requirement under the Lincoln County food ordinance adopted in October 2011, that a certified food handler is present when food is prepared and/or served to the public. This course will focus on proper food preparation, personal hygiene, sanitation procedures, and permit requirements, as well as answers to recent questions our office has received regarding Chili/BBQ Cook-Offs and Baked Good requirements.
There are two class dates scheduled for Spring 2013. They will be held on Thursday, March 21 and Tuesday April 16. Class will be held in the Community Room at the South Entrance of the Health Department, located at #5 Health Department Drive in Troy. Registration will begin at 6 p.m. and class will commence promptly at 6:15 p.m. All students will receive a packet of information and some items needed for safe food preparation. Seats are reserved by advance payment only. To reserve a seat, or for additional information, please call the Environmental Office at (636) 528-6117 ext. 201.
If you are a restaurant employee, there are separate classes required for you. Managers should go to www.servsafe.com/purchase and other staff should go to www.statefoodsafety.com or www.servsafehandling.com. Certificates need to be available for the inspector to review during an inspection.
