Peoples Bank and Trust Co. recently donated $1,000 to the Wheels to Work program. The money will supplement funds initially provided by United Way of Greater St. Louis. Wheels to Work is administered by the Boonslick Regional Planning Commission of Warrenton.
“This generous contribution will allow us to expand the program,” says Steve Etcher, Executive Director of Boonslick Regional Planning Commission.
David Thompson, President and CEO of Peoples Bank and Trust adds, “Peoples Bank has always made it a priority to help people in the community. By supporting organizations and civic groups, we help make our community a better place to live.”
The Wheels to Work program provides small, low-interest loans for qualified applicants to purchase dependable, used vehicles provided by Righteous Rides, a non-for-profit ministry that provides international missionaries with transportation while on furlough.
The goal of the program is to ensure that low income unemployed and newly- employed residents have access to affordable, reliable transportation to and from work. “Wheels to Work offers an opportunity for people to find and retain employment by offering low cost loans for dependable used cars “ says Etcher. “When a prospective employer knows that an applicant has reliable transportation it can increase his or her chance of being offered a job.”
Residents of Lincoln, Montgomery, and Warren Counties are eligible to apply for the loan.
