Spring in Eastern Missouri means new lambs and kids, early work in the market garden, and the arrival of baby chicks and other hatchlings.
It is also time again for the Spring Poultry Expo of The River Hills. Held on Saturday, April 13 at the Silex R-1 School, it brings together farmers from throughout Missouri and across the country. The event highlights some of the rarest of the rare poultry breeds and birds from farms that have pioneered the current system of local and heritage food production.
Admission is free and the day will include many special events and activities. A special feature will be an egg show based on those currently popular in Europe and that will include a session on selecting and evaluating laying hens.
The day will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will go forward rain or shine. Contact numbers for this event and the accompanying farmers’ market are 636-697-3447 or 660-998-0445.
