Owls’ bats on fire in recent games
The Silex Owls are peeking as the district tournaments loom ahead.
In their most recent win April 30, they squeezed out an 11-10 win over Louisiana. “It was a quality win against a quality team,” said Coach Chad Twellman. “We were up by five early, down five late and showed the resiliency at the end to believe and come back.”
Louisiana is ranked fifth in Class 2. In the win, the Owls did not get any extra base hits but finished with 13 hits. Ryan Eisenbath, Zach Miller, and Matt Mueller had two RBIs apiece with Matt Huber and Augie Martin driving in single tallies. Mueller and Wyatt Groshong had three hits each. Josh Adams, Troy Strunk, Chad Brown and Groshong pitched.
On April 29, the Owls again had their bats on fire as they posted a 17-5 win over Clopton. As a team, they had 18 hits. Austin Fleming went five for five including a home run, driving in four runs. Groshong had three RBIs and Eisenbath had two.
On April 26 in a much closer game, the Owls slipped past Montgomery R-II 4-3 on a walk-off hit by Troy Strunk in the bottom of the seventh. Strunk had a big night, driving in three runs. Austin Fleming drove in the other and Groshong had three hits. Groshong also was the winning pitcher, throwing all seven innings.
