Winfield girls soccer comes up scoreless

On Thursday,May 2, Winfield traveled to Kennedy for a rain-soaked game. Unfortunately, Winfield lost the closely-contested match by a final score of 1-0, Kennedy scoring the only goal of the game in the second half.

The only statistic of note for Winfield came from (Freshman) Katie Burkemper, who played the full 80 minutes as Winfield’s goalkeeper, making 16 saves in the effort.

The loss drops Winfield’s overall season record to 7-9.

On Monday, May 6, Winfield took the long trip out to Fatima, and just couldn’t quite get things to work out. Despite controlling most of the first half, Fatima scored late in the first half on a quick counterattack, and went into halftime up, 1-0. Fatima rode that momentum into the second half, and added a second goal, keeping Winfield scoreless, and dealing Winfield the 2-0 loss.

The only statistic of note for Winfield came from Katie Burkemper, who played the full 80 minutes as Winfield’s goalkeeper, making six saves in the effort.

On Wednesday, May 8, Winfield traveled to St. Charles for the final conference game of Winfield’s season. The first half was controlled by St. Charles, but Winfield’s tough defense kept the game scoreless, until the 36th minute, when St. Charles found a way to crack through Winfield’s defense. Going into halftime, the game was still close, with St. Charles only leading 1-0. The second half was a different half entirely, with St. Charles controlling most of the game, and adding six more goals, for a final score of St. Charles 7, Winfield 0.

The only statistic of note for Winfield came from Katie Burkemper, who played the full 80 minutes as Winfield’s goalkeeper, making 13 saves in the effort.

The tough loss drops Winfield’s overall season record to 7-11.
