Sports season winding down

Troy Buchanan goalkeeper Tiffany Hazelwonder makes stop in win over Wentzville Holt in district action.

The baseball and soccer seasons came to a close for Troy Buchanan and Winfield last week with losses in district competition.

In baseball, Winfield lost a narrow 4-3 game to St. Charles at St. Charles West. The Pirates pushed across two runs in the fifth inning which proved to be the difference. Zach Ham led Winfield, going 3 for 3 and had two RBIs. Chandler Hollingsworth had the other RBI. Dale Diederich was charged with the loss. He gave up six hits, two earned runs and struck out three batters.

Elsberry moved into the district final at Clopton with a 6-3 win over the host Hawks while Silex escaped with a 13-12 win over Community in the district at Sturgeon.

Troy Buchanan lost 10-0 to Wentzville Timberland. Austin Foust, Devon Fuller and Nic Tubbessing had the hits for Troy. Tubbessing was charged with the loss.

In soccer, Troy had goals by Allie Heinz and Jamie Gilley in a 2-1 win over Wentzville Holt in the first round. Gilley and Mariah Vollmer had assists with Tiffany Hazelwonder getting the win in the nets. Troy advanced to play Timberland in the semifinals where they lost 1-0.

In track for Troy Buchanan, Here are the Troy Track and Field Athletes that Qualified for the Sectional Meet Parkway North: LeSean Regans (3rd in Long Jump 19’7”), Ben Krause (1st in the 200 Meter Dash 23.22); Bri Livingston (2nd in the Discus 114’8” and 3rd in the Shot Put 33’10”), Rachel Sullivan (3rd in the 400 Meter Dash 1.00.52), Girls 4×8 Relay took 2nd 9:47.08 which set a new school record. Runners included Morgan Hartwig, Rebecca Ashburn, Riley Fader and Rachel Sullivan.
