Funeral services for Ellen Lea Purvis, 69, of Elsberry, were held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Elsberry Assembly of God Church in Elsberry. Rev. Richard Pillers, church pastor, officiated with burial in Elsberry City Cemetery near Elsberry.

Ms. Purvis passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 28, 2013, at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry. Born April 14, 1944 in Mount Moriah, IA, she was the daughter of Cecil William and Onneda Fern Johnston Hardy. She worked for over 20 years as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for the Elsberry Health Care Center, retiring in 2007.

Survivors include two brothers: Harold Eugene Hardy and his wife, Dixie, of Savannah, and Aubrey Hardy, of Winfield; and one sister-in-law, Jean Hardy, of Elsberry. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.

Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2013 at the Elsberry Assembly of God Church.

Bette Riggs

Bette Riggs, 82, of Troy, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at St. Joseph West, Lake Saint Louis.

She was born on March 28, 1931, in Pocahontas, Ark. to Ernest and Monettia (Byrd) Moore. After attending the local schools, Bette met and later married John Riggs. To this union were born three daughters: Nita, Rita and Amber.

Bette was a wonderful, caring wife and mother who always took great care of her family. She was a member of St.Stephen United Methodist Church in Troy, VFW Post in O’Fallon and was very active in LCCOA and especially enjoyed her many friends there. .

Bette is survived by her loving family: her daughter Amber Butler, of Troy; three grandchildren: Larry J (Chastity)Whitsett Jr. of Homa, La., Amber M.Dillon Burke, of Troy, Derek C. (Katie) Dotson of Denver, Colo., eight great-grandchildren and one on-the-way; her special friend, Robert Croxville of Troy and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation  was Wednesday, May 29, 2013, from 3-8 p.m. at McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 1304 Boone St., Troy.

Funeral was held Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 2 p.m. at McCoy-Blossom Funeral Home & Cremation Center Troy. Officiating was Jim King. Interment  followed in the Asbury Cemetery, Foley.

Robert Harke

A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert “Bob” Stephen Harke, 90, of Old Monroe, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Church in Old Monroe.  Fr. Phil Krahman, church pastor, will officiate with burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.

Mr. Harke passed away Thursday evening, May 30, 2013 at the Elsberry Health Care Center near Elsberry.

Born Aug. 21, 1922, in the Chain of Rocks community near Old Monroe, he was the son of Lawrence J. and Lucille “Lucy” Wehde Harke.  He served his country in the United States Army from October 13, 1944 until being honorably discharged on October 24, 1946.  He was united in marriage on May 9, 1950 in Old Monroe to Bernadette Ida Burkemper.  This union was blessed with two children: Karen Ann and James Robert.

He was a farmer for many years.  He was a 50 year member of American Legion Post #420 and of the St. Charles County Baseball Hall of Fame.  He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Bernadette Harke of Old Monroe; one daughter, Karen Poeling and her husband, Marvin, of Evansville, Ind.; one son, James Harke and his wife, Denise, of Moscow Mills; and six grandchildren: Lauren Rodgers and her husband, John, Jared Poeling, Jason Poeling, Alexa Poeling, Michael Harke and Nicole Harke.  He also leaves three sisters: Harriett Bauer and her husband, Edwin “Epp”, of O’Fallon, MO, Ruth Bauer of Old Monroe and Kathryn Bowman also of Old Monroe; four brothers: Carl Harke and his wife, Dorothy “Dot”, of O’Fallon, Roy Harke and his wife, Norma, also of O’Fallon, Earl Harke and his wife, Betty, and Gary Harke and his wife, Ann, all of Old Monroe; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and numerous friends.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Carter-Ricks Funeral Home near Winfield.  An American Legion Post service will be held at 7 p.m.
