Flanagan named girls basketball coach, Lipsey softball coach at Silex

There will be several new coaches for several Silex sports teams next season. However, many of them will be familar to Silex and area sports fans.

“We have filled our coaching vacancies created by Coach  Robert James going to Winfield as their athletic director and we restructured some positions.,” said Dr. Bruce Werkmeister, high school principal.

The hirings include:

• Ryan Flanagan, Elsberry High School graduate, as high school girls’ basketball coach. He will also serve as a junior high softball coach, assistant high school baseball coach, and K-12 physical education teacher.

• Rebecca Lipsey, Silex High School graduate, will be the high school girls softball coach. She will also serve as the assistant high school girls’ basketball coach. She will be starting her second year in the district as an elementary teacher.

• Shawn Wilding will be the high school golf coach. He has been in the district for eight years teaching middle school social studies and serving as the assistant high school softball coach, junior high girls’ basketball coach and junior high boys’ basketball coach.

• Jordan Lasater, Troy Buchanan High School graduate, will be assistant high school boys’ basketball coach. He will be starting his second year in the district as a high school paraprofessional.

• Chad Twellman will be the activities director. He is a Silex graduate that has been in the district for six years as a health and P.E. teacher. He is the cross country coach, high school boys’ basketball coach, and high school baseball coach.

Rachel Polston, Warrenton High School graduate, will be the high school cheerleading coach. She will be teaching high school social studies and serve as a junior high softball coach.
