Accidents result in injuries
Missouri Highway Patrol reported on recent crashes resulting in injuries to area residents.
On June 20 at 3 p.m., Darrell Biggerstaff, 48, of Elsberry, was injured in a crash on Deer Run Road south of Rt. JJ in Lincoln County. Biggerstaff was southbound on Deer Run Road on a 1986 Honda Aero moped when he suffered a medical condition and lost control. The moped traveled off the right side of the roadway, returned to the roadway and overturned, ejecting Biggerstaff.
He was taken by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis.
Two people were injured June 21 in a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 79 south of Route 47 near Winfield. Time of the accident was 4 p.m. The Patrol reported the accident occurred when a southbound 2006 Chrysler Sebring driven by Brandon Smith, 23, of Elsberry, swerved to the right to avoid an unknown vehicle that had pulled into its path. The Sebring exited the roadway to the right and struck a mailbox. It then re-entered the roadway and crossed over the roadway into the northbound lane striking a 1997 Kenworth T800 driven by Stephen Fortman, 36, of Troy.
Smith was injured and was his passenger, Brittany Darnell, 18, of Elsberry. Both were taken by ambulance to St. Joseph West. Smith’s injuries were listed as moderate and Darnell’s were serious. It was unknown whether either were using their seat belts at the time of the crash.
A two-vehicle crash occurred June 23 at 7 p.m. on Hwy. 61 north of Cuivre River near Troy. According to the Patrol statement, a 2001 Ford Explorer driven by Breanna Eubank, 24, of Thayer was following a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Anthony Brown, 45, of Silex. The front of the Explorer struck the rear of the Grand Prix. Both were using their seat belts at the time of the crash.
Eubank was taken by ambulance to the Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy. Her injuries were listed as moderate.
Three Troy residents sustained minor injuries in an accident June 25 at 5:20 p.m. on Lincoln Hills Road, just north of Camp Cuivre Dr. in the Cuivre River State Park.
A 2004 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Skylar Edwards, 17, traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned.
In addition to Edwards also injured were Jared Nelson and Jordyn Nelson, both age 9. All three were transported by Lincoln County EMS to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis.
In an accident at 12:48 p.m. on June 26, Rebecca Thompson was seriously injured. The accident occurred on Route NN, just north of Pike County Road 274.
According to the report, Thompson was driving a 2007 GMC Acadia northbound when the vehicle traveled off the side of the road, struck a culvert and a tree. She was not using her seat belt at the time of the accident.
Thompson was taken by Air Evac Air Ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur.
