During the summer the riches produced by Missouri’s family farms become ever more apparent. A chill, wet spring slowed many things from plantings in the garden to the hatching of baby chicks, but nature is beginning to set things right.

The River Hills Farmers Market on July 13 in the Silex City Park will be drawing on the bounty of the season. The small stock side of the market will include many started pullets, varieties of poultry suited for youth project work, and some true exotics such as Phoenix fowl. Fresh produce from local farms is beginning to arrive and will be available at the market that morning as well.

The River Hill producers will be joining with the Wind Ridge farmers and crafters on the morning of July 27 for their mid-summer market. That market is on Main Street in Eolia and in a salute to the young people of the region it will be a free setup day fro 4-H, FFA, and other rural youngsters. Later in the morning there will be a special, silent auction offering poultry of breeder quality and new and used equipment and supplies.

These markets are open to all farmers, growers, and crafts persons throughout Eastern Missouri and free spaces are always available to not for profit groups such as the Silex Seniors that will have a bake and crafts sale at the Silex Market on the morning of the 13th.
