Jillian Young Memorial 5K Run/Walk raised $4,400 for scholarship fund

The first annual Jillian Young Memorial 5K Run/Walk held Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the American Legion Hall in Elsberry was a huge success with 198 people participating in the event.

Top runners receiving trophies were Will Megl with a time of 19.05 minutes and Beth Slaughter with a time of 27.25 minutes. Organizer of the run/walk was Amy Martin and sponsors included Martin Brothers Cabinets, Heartland Restoration, Elsberry IGA, Page Branch Pavement Pounders, Elsberry Family Health, Embroidery by Karen, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 226, Lincoln County Medical Center, Falls Vet Care, Bernie’s Pizza, Creech Company, Equine Massage & Body Work, Broadway Flowers and Fountain, the Green Family, and Subway of Elsberry.

Over $4,440 was raised with all proceeds going to the Jillian Young Memorial Scholarship fund.

“I hope to continue this benefit each year,” says Martin, “as there was certainly a lot of interest from family and friends of Jillian and, of course, we could not have had such success without our sponsors.”
