In the summer of 2009 Robby Kallery approached Dave Canoy, owner and tattoo artist of The Ink Spot in Troy, about having a customer appreciation day at their shop. Everyone jumped at the idea. So they called a few friends of theirs that were in bands and in two weeks time they put together the first annual Ink Spot Block Party. The Ink Spot has been in business since December 2006. During this time the artists at the Ink Spot have developed quite a name for themselves with their customers in the area and have even tattooed on several bands including Shinedown, Hurt, Cavo, Papa Roach, and many more. The Ink Spot Block Party was a way for the guy’s at the Ink Spot to give back to their loyal clients.

While the annual Ink Spot Block Party may have started from humble beginnings with 500 people coming out to celebrate the first year, it was about to take on a life of its own. Even with the threat of rain and cool temperatures the crowd at the second event doubled with nearly 1,000 people in attendance. By 2012 Robby and Dave knew they had an event that was here to stay and saw the Ink Spot Block Party as a way to give back to not only their clients, but also the entire community. With the success of the previous years fresh in their minds they decided to pull out all the stops by inviting the band Cavo to headline as well as having Pisciottas cater the event. The event was a huge success with 3,000 people coming out to enjoy great music and food.

After the large crowd came out in 2012, Robby and Dave realized the Ink Spot Block Party had outgrown their parking lot. So the two went straight to work shooting for the moon and planning their biggest event to date. This year’s Ink Spot Block Party will be held at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds thanks to the help of the fair board members. Mustang Sally’s Bar is also participating in the event this year by running a beer garden during the event. Brian Parker’s family business, Pisciottas Catering, will be back again this year serving delicious food and drinks. The music this year is what really sets this year’s Ink Spot Block Party apart from years past with 12 musical acts performing from noon until midnight. Musical acts include Hurt, Cavo, Shamans Harvest, Brookroyal, Inimical Drive, Fivefold, The Leopard, Hollow Point Heroes, Killer Me Killer You, and recently announced from Nashville Tennessee, Show Baby. The Ink Spot Block Party 2013 will be on Saturday, July 27 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. Gates will open at 11 a.m. and music will start at noon. With the Ink Spot Block Party growing larger and the added cost to put on the event the Ink Spot gathered support from many sponsors around the area. The Ink Spot sponsors include: Pops Nightclub, Foley Dental, Ron Smiths Tree Service, Rookies Bar and Grill, Academy of Courage, Super 8 Hotel in Troy, USA Puff n Stuff, Sunshine Door and Gate, Advance Beauty College, Greg’s Automotive, Perlow’s Salvage, Hershel’s Signs, Talk STL.com, Mikes I.T.
