Thieves targeting unattached garages for extension cords

A rise in the number of copper wire thefts in Lincoln County prompted the Sheriff to ask the community to lock their garage.

As of August 20, 2013, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has responded to an unusually high amount of calls for thefts occurring out of unattached garages. Thieves are targeting these garages for extension cords and gas cans, passing up high dollar electric tools and other items.

The thieves use the gasoline to set fire to the extension cords for the copper within. The Sheriff is asking residents to please ensure their garage is locked at all times and report any suspicious behavior.

The copper wire thefts are occurring along Highway 47 east of Troy on Gravens and Hoot Owl Hollow Roads. Please call Emergency Communications at 636-528-6100 to report anyone burning extensions cords.
