Montgomery City man charged in theft of car
According to news from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, a Montgomery City man has been charged in connection with the theft of a car.
According to the department, amidst of a drunken stupor, Perry W. Deak, 20, of Montgomery City, took a car from the 600 block of Duckett Rd., in Elsberry, without the consent of the owner.
Witnesses observed Deak drinking alcohol most of the evening on Aug. 28 and was seen walking the neighborhood around 3 a.m.
The next morning when the victim attempted to leave for work, he noticed the car’s engine was warm, the seat moved, the smell of alcohol inside and items missing.
Deak later admitted to investigators he took the vehicle to see his girlfriend in Montgomery City; however, he could not remember the details of his trip.
The victim told investigators his neighborhood is mostly peaceful with little problems. The keys were in the unlocked vehicle.
Perry Deak is currently housed at the Lincoln County Jail and charged with Felony Tampering with a Motor Vehicle. His bond is currently $15,000 or surety.
