Volleyball fortunes looking up for Trojans
Returning letterwomen for the Troy Buchanan volleyball team include: Katelynn Cherry, McKala Lawler, Riley Stephens, Logan Mennemeyer, Courtney Huff, Stef Richterkessing and Baylie Carroll.
Coach Lane Cox, second year volleyball coach at Troy Buchanan High, has a positive outlook as her team prepares for their season opener Sept. 3 at Francis Howell.
“I think we will be fun to watch,” she said. “We have implemented some changes over the summer which hopefully result in greater success.”
Members of the varsity this fall includes Sam Brady (OH/DS), Baylie Carroll (RS), Katelyn Cherry (DS/L), Courtney Huff (OH), McKala Lawler (RS/DS), Madison McLaughlin (RS), Jade McNeil (DS/L), Logan Mennemeyer (MH), Stef Richterkessing (S), Riley Stephens (OH), Madison Warrington (OH) and Ally Richterkessing (DS/S). Huff earned post-season recognition last year and has started on the varsity all four years. Stef Richterkessing should handle the setter’s duties with Stephens returning as a strong, outside hitter. Mennemeyer is a middle hitter and with her height, should be among the leaders in blocks. Lawler should be among the defensive leaders for the squad.
In addition to the competition in the Gateway Athletic Conference, Cox’s squad will have an early season test as they will compete in the Gateway Match Up Tournament Sept. 12, 13 and 14 at Oakville High School. They will be in a pool with Eureka, Duchesne, Nerinx Hall and Perryville. Kirkwood, Marquette, Rosati-Kain and Visitation are in another pool. In Pool C will be Francis Howell, Lindbergh, Parkway South and Villa Duchesne and in Pool D will be Cor Jesu Academy, Lee’s Summit, Oakville, Parkway West and Washington.
