Lincoln County will not be represented in state tournament play in high school softball as all four teams have been eliminated.
The Silex Lady Owls lost two regular season games against quality teams before winning their district opener in high school softball.
They left elevn runners on base in a loss to Francis Howell.
They then lost 4-0 to Union in close, competitiv match.
“The game aganist Union was not our best game but all we can do is learn from it,” said Coach Rebecca Lipsey.
Silex got another strong effortfrom pitcher Melanie Miller. She was charged with the loss but struck out six batters.
“Melanie has kept improving all year for us,” said Coach Lipsey. “She has been working on hitting her spots more effectively and trying to get ahead in the counts so we can throw some other pitches.”
In the game, Leah Miller, Rachelle Horne and Michele Norton had one each apiece.
In their district opener, Silex defeated Community 13-1 at Silex.
Leading the offense were: Rachel Lipsey (2-2, 3 runs scored, RBI), Ashley Brown (1-3, and RBI double), Madi Henke (2-4, 2 RBIs, double, 2 runs), Leah Miller (2-2, RBI double, 3 runs scored) Rachelle Horne (3-3, 5 RBIs, double),Melanie MIller (1-3) and Nikki Hawkins (1-2, triple)
“ The girls came out focused for the first round in a district!,” said Lipsey. “They hit the ball hard and did a great job of picking each other up at the plate and on the field.
Miller with the win, She had 5 K’s and gave up 2 hits.
Lady Owls earning all-conference awards included: Ashley Brown, first team and Rachel Lipsey and Brittany Howard on second team.
In the semi-finals, Silex lost a close 9-8 game to Clopton to close their season.
Other area teams losing included Elsberry 3-2 to Louisiana, Winfield 9-5 to Bowling Green and Troy dropped a 8-5 decision to Fort Zumwalt North in a Class 4 district title game.
