Declaring Troy Police’s participation in the nation’s annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” drunk driving crackdown a success, Troy Police reported several contacts and drug arrests were made during the enforcement period, which ran from August 16 to September 2, 2013.

“I am proud of our Officers for their hard work and dedication to making our region’s roadways safer,” said Chief Taylor.

Drunk driving is more than a reckless choice by a few individuals,” he said. “Each year, drunk driving costs the livees of thousands on America’s highways. In 2012, 230 people died in Missouri crashes involving impaired drivers. That worked out to approximately one impaired driving fatality every one and a half days.”

During the 2012 Labor Day weekend in Missouri, three people were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes involving impaired drivers or motorcycle riders.

Troy Police joined forces with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and nearly 10,000 law enforcement agencies across the country in this year’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
