Bellarmine Speech Meet on Saturday, Nov. 9.

The Bellarmine Speech League was created in St. Louis in 1945 to help students in local parochial elementary schools develop and improve their public speaking skills. The participants—all in grades fifth through eighth—memorize and perform scripts in three categories: humorous, serious and duet. Participants with the highest total score earn ribbons or trophies.

Fourteen Catholic elementary schools from throughout St. Charles and St. Louis counties will compete in the meet at Sacred Heart School. The meet should be a boom for local businesses, as dozens of visiting coaches, parents and volunteers spend their day in Troy.
