Clearing driveways of snow could save time
After the recent heavy snowfall across northeast Missouri, MoDOT wants to remind everyone of the recommended way to clear the snow from your driveway.
Unfortunately, snow plowed from roads could end up blocking private driveways for some time. MoDOT does not have the time to plow driveways for those who are unable to do so. If MoDOT spent just 60 seconds per driveway, it would take several days to clean driveways alone.
MoDOT crews do not come back and plow out any driveways. One thing Missourians can do to minimize the problem is to pile snow that has been shoveled from the driveway on the DOWNSTREAM side of the driveway. Plow blades will then push snow into the area just before your driveway, leaving a much smaller amount in the entrance. We encourage those who are not able to shovel their entrances to ask neighbors for assistance or hire a private snow plow service.
Please remember to have the snow removed back away from the entrance in a manner to still be able see oncoming traffic when pulling onto the highway. Please see the illustration on how to keep your driveway clear at http://www.modot.org/road_conditions/keepdrivewayclear.htm.
