Ex-LCMC employee charged for stealing over $21,000
In October 2013, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office took over an investigation started in November 2012 of a Lincoln County Medical Center employee who was suspected of embezzling over $21,000 from two hospital accounts.
Working with the Lincoln County Medical Center’s financial officers, investigators learned cash and checks were not accounted for from May to August 2012. Reconciled accounts, logs, and audits did not match the internal accounting system leading to suspicion of embezzlement.
Cash and checks totaling $18,606.00 went missing from the medical center’s Occupational Health account from May to August 2012. While $2,619.89 went missing from the Medical Center’s cafeteria account during the same time, which led investigators to 38 year old, Laura Jill Hall, of Moberly.
Hall worked in accounts receivable for the Medical Center from November 2011 to August 2012 and was responsible for depositing the cash and checks into the medical center’s account receivables. Hall told investigators the lack of internal controls may have led to the disappearance of money and provided no additional information.
After Hall’s resignation in August 2012, the money disappearances stopped.
Laura J. Hall is currently charged with a class C felony for stealing under $25,000 and is at large. Her last known place of employment was in Moberly, MO. If anyone knows the whereabouts of Laura Hall are asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 636-528-6100.
Those charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
