Rachel Sullivan received the surprise of a lifetime when admissions counselors and the mascot from Columbia College came to her classroom at Troy Buchanan High School to announce she received the Columbia College Scholarship. The Columbia College Scholarship is a four-year scholarship to Columbia College valued at 109,504 dollars.

Her family was in on the surprise doing their very best not to tell, only telling her she should dress nice on the day she was awarded the scholarship. “I had no idea at all. I was completely surprised,” said Sullivan of the scholarship announcement.

Rachel traveled to Columbia College in December for Scholarship Day where she competed for the prestigious scholarship by submitting two letters of recommendation, essays and completed a 30-minute interview. Even during this process they only told her she would be notified in March if she were to receive the scholarship not that they would surprise her with their prize patrol.

While at Columbia College Rachel plans to study chemistry before moving on to graduate school where she plans to study optometry in hopes of one day becoming an optometrist.
