Landon’s Helping Paws is pleased to announce that they, along with the help of their new partner, A New Leash For Life, have paired Roman, a Goldendoodle in training with a very deserving family. Roman will be trained to help Curtis Schilly, a seven year old boy in Troy who was diagnosed with autism just before his third birthday. Curtis was born a happy, healthy baby on December 20, 2007 and was above average in ever aspect except speech at the age of two. When Curtis turned three he began to regress in his speech and started showing signs of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). With the help of a fast diagnoses, therapy, and the love from his family, Curtis is improving his speech and was able to accomplish many big milestones. Now, with the help of Landon’s Helping Paws and A New Leash For Life, Curtis will have even more assistance when he is at home. Roman, a two-year-old Goldendoodle, is currently being trained by A New Leash For Life to help break OCD cycles, guide Curtis while in crowded places, and to give him the courage and confidence to live an active life with his family. For the next three to four months A New Leash For Life will be meeting with the Schilly family to make sure that Roman is making a connection with Curtis. By the end of June to early July, Roman should be with the Schilly family full time helping to change Curtis’ life.
This announcement was made at Landon’s Helping Paws Trivia night where many area residents came out to support the Schilly family and also the great cause. There were 50/50 raffles, prizes, and auctions. Among the auction was an adorable chocolate lab puppy who was up for grabs from the Lavy Family Farm in Silex. The lab puppy sold for $800. The trivia night is one of Landon’s Helping Paw’s biggest fundraiser for the organization. The next fundraiser will be May 31 where everyone is welcome to sign up for their annual Golf Tournament in St. Peters. The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. with teams of four. Included in the price will be a light breakfast, lunch, drinks and carts.
