Clarence Cannon NWR Youth Fishing Day
The Clarence Cannon National Wildlife Refuge will host its fifth annual Youth Fishing Day on Saturday, May 17, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Youth ages 15 and under, when accompanied by a parent or guardian, will have the opportunity to catch fish in a pond on the refuge. This event will help children learn how to fish so they can hopefully enjoy this activity and be “hooked” for the rest of their life.
Children may bring their own fishing poles and tackle, but all fishing gear will be provided if needed. In addition to fishing, refuge staff will also offer other activity stations such as learning to cast and craft projects. Admission to the event and all activities is free. In celebration of the refuge’s 50th anniversary, there will also be a drawing for six free fishing poles for children and one fishing pole for an adult.
With high water levels on the Mississippi River, there is a chance that the event may have to be postponed due to the refuge flooding. Be sure to contact the refuge a day or two before the event to make sure it has not been postponed.
