Area churches host soccer camp

Local ministers and churches of the Elsberry Ministerial Alliance are partnering with an inter-denominational group called “Sports Crusaders” for a week-long soccer camp for Elsberry elementary school students. It is being held this week at Page Branch Park. The camp is for children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grades.

Sports Crusaders are college student-athletes who teach children the fundamentals and skills related to a particular sport, such as soccer. Since 1994 these teams of college students have conducted more than 1,500 camps which have been attended by some 40,000 children. Children will also hear how the student-athletes have made positive life decisions because of their faith and how they can make good decisions, too.

Camp will run from Monday through Thursday and be divided into two sessions. Children who have completed grades K-2 are attending the morning session from 9 – 11:30 a.m. Children who have completed grades 3-5 attend the afternoon session from 1-3:30 p.m. All age groups will attend the Friday morning session together, along with parents and other family members, for awards and closing ceremonies.
