Dr. Rasmussen dies in two-vehicle accident

A Silex man died in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Hwy. 61 and Route B (Auburn Junction) Saturday afternoon (July 26), according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Time of the accident was 3:10 p.m.

According to the statement from the Patrol, a 2006 Toyota Tundra driven by Donald Rasmussen, 69, of Silex, failed to yield to a 2011 Columbia Freightliner driven by Todd A. Gibson, 55, of Sparta, Tenn.

Rasmussen was pronounced at the scene by Brian Reed, Lincoln County Deputy Coroner. Rasmussen was not wearing a seat belt and Gibson was.

Dr. Rasmussen was a retired veterinarian. He was a partner with the Troy and Wentzville Veterinary Clinics. He retired after 40 years as a veterinarian.

In a separate accident on July 28, Christine Allen, 53, of Troy, suffered moderate injuries in a one-car accident at Linns Mill Road at Hwy. 47. Time of the accident was 11:33 p.m.

According to the Patrol statement, Allen was driving a 2012 Toyota Corolla when she became distracted and failed to stop at a posted stop sign before striking an embankment. She was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident.

She was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake Saint Louis for treatment.
