Troy Buchanan High Trojans to make ‘ripples’ in the water as they continue to grind out victories on rain soaked football fields. Troy, behind the two touchdowns scored by Devon Fuller and surviving a rain delay, Troy defeated Fort Zumwalt North 14-0 in O’Fallon. Fuller scored all his team’s points during the evening. Defensively, he had six tackles (five solos and three tackles for losses) and sacked FZN quarterback Zach Hilliard twice. Troy’s defense sacked Hilliard  a total of eight. Robert Noll stopped the Panthers’ last drive of the game with an interception. Nick Travis and Ben Chaney recovered fumbles for the Trojans.

Fuller scored on Troy’s first possession of the game when he founded daylight for a 50-yard run with 10:09 left in the period. The extra point attempt failed. In the second period, lightning forced a delay in the game with both teams sent back into the locker room and the fans to the high school gym for the minimum 30 minutes. The Panthers put together their best drive of the night, moving the ball down inside the Panther five-yard line. Instead of allowing a score, Troy’s defense put up a solid goal-line stand and the Panthers were forced to turn the ball over to Troy.  Fuller scored on a 14-yard run with 38 seconds remaining in the half. He ran successfully on the two-point attempt, giving Troy a 14-0 halftime lead. The teams played to a scoreless second.

Behind Fuller’s 167 yards on 25 carries, quarterback Ben Chaney finished with 50 yards on the ground. He completed one pass to Fuller for six yards. The Trojans held a 248-129 edge in total yards.

The win improved Troy’s record to 2-1 going into the Sept. 15 Homecoming game with Francis Howell Central. North’s record dropped to 2-1.
