In tennis, Zumwalt East won last night 6-3.

Match summaries: “We have been playing some very strong doubles this year and that is helped set the tone for our matches” said Coach Matt Summers.  “In the format we currently play there are three doubles and six singles matches and you have to win five of those matches to win the match. Our girls have been consistently winning all three doubles, so it is really taking the pressure off them at singles.”

Ft. Zumwalt East – 6-3 loss. It was an extremely even match with four matches went to three sets and those third set super tiebreakers went down to the wire,” said Summers.         WINFIELD

Winfield saw its record slip to 0-4 and remain scoreless over that span.

They lost recent games to St. Clair (8-0), Canton (6-0) and Warrenton (8-0).

In softball, the Lady Warriors notched two more wins against Gateway Athletic Conference members. They won 12-2 over St. Charles (no stats available).

They also defeaed St. Charles West 10-0 behind the no-hit pitching of Mackenzie Hoelting.  Hoelting struck out 12 enroute to the win. Offensively, a five-run second inning keyed the win. Chelsey Bowman drove in three runs with Kayla Bals plating two more. Peyton Ward leashed a triple with Sarah Entwistle and Cailyn Hoelting getting doubles.

Mackenzie Hoelting was the winning pitcher and drove in two runs in a 5-4 win over Warrenton. Bowmn, Maria Tippit and Libby Marko drove in a run apiece. Hoelting struck out  ten batters, three runs and only two earned runs.

ELSBERRY

The Elsberry Indians Soccer team pulled off a 10-0 win against Montgomery County and lost 3-1 to Canton.

“We had our chances against Canton but could not put the ball in the back of the net,” Robinson said. “This was a tough loss for us. We dominated the first 25 minutes of the second half but Canton scored to put them up 2-1 with 12 minutes left in the game.”

However, Robinson said Simon Domingo seemed to be on fire against Montgomery County as he had a hat trick and an assist. Ben Rhoades was another key player as he had two goals and three assists. Alex Henke added two more goals, while Mason Cameron, Brennen Slaughter and Grant Black all scored one goal.

For the third straight game the Elsberry Lady Indians offense was shutdown 7-0 Monday night by Palmyra Lady Panthers in Elsberry. With a little luck and a few less mental mistakes Head Coach Trudy Bull said her girls would have still been in the game at the end. “That could have been 2-2 in the seventh,” said Coach Bull.
