Hundreds of Lincoln County supporters came out for the Addiction Awareness Rally on September 22 at the Ponderosa Steakhouse parking lot. The agenda for the rally featured a lot of powerful testimonies about drug and alcohol abuse. Families came out to carry on their relative’s legacy and to share with the public the hurt and devastation that comes with these types of decisions.
Milli Palmer, of Preferred Family Healthcare spoke about all the great programs that Lincoln County now has to help individuals with their addition problems. Palmer suggested reaching out to anyone who is in need of help and saving their lives.
The family of Doug Geiger, 29, helped to conduct the rally. Sister, Jessica Geiger, and mother, Tammy Boone spoke about their struggles after his death and all the great times they had with Doug before his life was taken.
Later on in the day Prosecuting Attorney, Leah W. Askey reminded everyone of the programs Lincoln County had to offer and gave props to the DART (Drug Alcohol Reduction Team) program that all four schools are now enrolled and active in. Other guest speakers that day were Raymond Floyd and a mother, Chris Duran, who lost her son due to a heroin overdose; Matt Bass and Mario Wray who spoke about personal issues they have overcome.
Throughout the day there was music playing and free hot dogs and soda for those who came out to support the rally. Face painting was a highlight for the children. Many held signs along side of Hwy. 47 in loving memory of their lost loved ones. The rally ended with a balloon release and many tearful faces.
