Area high school softball teams are on the upswing as district tournaments are this week.
In Class 1, Silex is the top seed in District 8 at Sturgeon. They earned a first-round bye. They will play Oct. 4 at 5:30 p.m. against the Paris-Madison first-round survivor. If they win, the would advance to the title game Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.
Elsberry will host District 11 in Class 2 with the host Lady Indians earning the top-seed and first-round bye. They will play at 5 p.m. Oct. 4 against either Louisiana or Van-Far. Lutheran-St. Peters is second seed. If Elsberry wins, they advance to the title game Oct. 5 at 6 p.m.
Winfield has been assigned to District 7 in Class 3A at Wright City. Other teams assigned included Bowling Green, Fulton, North Callaway, Warrenton and Wright City. Bracket was not available.
Troy Buchanan High will host District 8 in Class 4. Troy was seeded first, earning them a first-round bye. They will play Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. against the winner of the Fort Zumwalt North-Fort Zumwalt South opening round game.
