The Rise Above Scholarship Foundation was formed early this year with the goal to raise $20,000 annually. The purpose of these fundraisers is to help at-risk graduating seniors in Lincoln County who have overcome obstacles and are motivated to “Rise Above” for their future. It is a project by Leah W. Askey, Lincoln County Prosecuting Attorney. Its scholarship board will be looking for individuals who have been emotionally or physically abused, abandoned, neglected, considered average or below average academically, and/or have found them self in the juvenile system. Statics show that education is a key component in the reduction of crime.
“I sincerely believe if we acquaint ourselves with these kids early in life they can choose a path that will lead to success and ultimately to a better, safer community that we all can enjoy, said Askey.
Many participated or contributed to a golf tournament, the kick-off event, this past spring that raised almost $8,000.
Next fundraiser for the year, a 5K “Monster Mash 5K”. It will be held Oct. 13. The run will start and end at the Troy Middle School. Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the event at 5:30 p.m. For more information, contact Amy Ehll at 636-299-7069 or Cecilia Eisenbath at 636-345-7442.
