In volleyball, Troy fell to Hannibal in two very close games losing both sets 23-25. Stef Richterkessing led the team with nine assists, Courtney Huff putting nine of those down. Baylie Carroll added another three kills and Logan Mennemeyer (2). Blocking well for the Trojans was setter Stef Richterkessing with three solo and two assisted blocks. Courtney Huff added another two solos. Defensively Libero Alyssa Schrader played very well for the Trojans grabbing 11 digs and scoring 4 points off her serve.
After losing to Francis Howell Central earlier in the season Troy was able to beat them in a tough two game match. Scores were 30-28, 27-25. Leading kills was Courtney Huff with 10, Riley Stephens with 5 and Taylor Busse with 3. Leading blocks was Logan Mennemeyer with 4 solo, and 4 assists. “The girls did a great job controlling the net,” said Coach Cox.
Troy Buchanan High Soccer Trojans dropped a 2-1 game in overtime to Francis Howell Central. Isaac Lehmkuhl scored Troy’s goal on an assist by Braden Rogers. Jeremy McKenna made four saves in the nets.
On Sept. 28, Josh Phillips had two goals in a 5-2 win over Francis Howell Central. Also scoring were Lehmkuhl, Brian Murphy and Brenden Nebel. KLehmkuhl, Ross Henke, Colton Lindsley and Logan Taylor has assists. Blake Chamberlin was the winning goalkeeper. Two days earlier, Troy got two goals from Phillips in a 2-1 over Francis Howell North. Murphy and Rogers set up the goals with assists. Chamberlin was in the nets again.
In games in Jefferson City, Troy split two games, losing 2-1 to Jopkin (Henke scored the goal assisted by Lehmkuhl). They defeated Helias 2-0 on goals by Lehmkuhl and Tyler Lewis. Lehmkuhl got an assist on Lewis’ goal.
The Winfield Lady Warrior Volleyball team notched consecutive wins over conference opponents St. Charles and Orchard Farm. On Sept. 25, Winfield used a strong offensive output to down the Lady Pirates. On the night, sophomore Allison Reller led the team with 7 kills on 18 swings, she was followed by freshmen Katie Burkemper and senior Sammi Tow with 5 each. Lauren Weber also added to the offense with 4 kills.
Two nights later the Lady Warriors followed up that conference win with another, this time on the road at Orchard Farm. On this night it was a steady serve receive that led the way to victory. As a team the Lady Warriors faced 32 serves and made zero passing errors, leading the way was senior Sammi Tow with 11 receives, followed by Katie Burkemper with 7 and junior Kayla Eggering and sophomore Jaclyn Sommerlad with four. The great serve receive again led to good offense led again by Reller with 5 kills on eight swings and assisted by sophomores Jaclyn Sommerlad and Niki Mathews with 7 assists each. At the end of the night Winfield left the gym with a 4-2 record in the GAC North putting them currently in second place.
They later added a victory in two games (25-11, 25-17) over Warrenton. No individual stats were reported.
In recent soccer games, Winfield lost 10-0 to Warrenton, 6-0 to O’Fallon Christian and 6-1 to Elsberry.
