The Pike County R-III (Clopton) Board of Education met on Tuesday, October 9, to review the bids for demolition of the Pike-Lincoln Technical Center (PLTC) structure that burned in December 2011. Spirtas Wrecking Company was the low bidder, at $56,252.00 as a base bid, and was awarded the contract. There were nine bids submitted with a range from $56,252.00 bid to $107,780.73. This process is a culmination of advertising in multiple newspapers in both Pike and Lincoln Counties over the course of nearly a month, along with individuals who had indicated an interest in the process. Mark Harvey, Superintendent of Schools, indicated that he was very pleased with the strong interest in the bidding process. He hopes that the continued interest in the rebuilding will allow the patrons of the district to see a high quality end result with funds from the insurance proceeds.
Cochran Engineering of Wentzville, Missouri, was approved to provide construction and materials testing during the phases of the demolition that deal with soils. Their services will be comprised of compaction testing of fill at post demolition and proctor of any fill material. The anticipated cost of Cochran’s services is $2,000.00.
Mark Reuther, Principal of Hoener Associates Inc., is working with various faculty and advisory board members to review space and program requirements for the new PLTC building on the Eolia Campus.
