There are three divisions in GAC Softball and players from Lincoln County schools captured two of three Player of the Year awards.
Morgan Oliver, senior catcher for the Troy Buchanan High Trojans, was named in the South Division while Mackenzie Hoelting, senior pitcher for the Winfield Lady Warriors was named in the North Division.
“I had never coached someone to consistently hit the ball as hard as Morgan,” said Troy Buchanan Coach Lance Richardson. “She set the Missouri record for RBIs (67). Her season almost resembles the quality of Emily Crane last year, but as right handed power hitter.
Oliver had a .604 batting average, 58 hits, 17 doubles and nine home runs in addition to her record RBI output. An unselfish player, she also had seven sacrifices.
“Morgan had done so much for this program,” added Richardson. “Her defensive skills behind the plate would be hard to match as well as her offense. More than anything we are losing a great person and leader!”
Oliver was definitely a key for the Lady Trojans as they finished with a 24-5 record and a 10-0 undefeated mark in the division.
Hoelting was a leader for Winfield both on the mound and at the plate. Offensively, she had a .463 batting average, .557 on base percentage. She had 37 hits including 12 doubles, two triples, two home runs with 24 RBIs. She had a 19-5 record on the mound with a 2.18 earned run average. She struck out 137 batters.
Here are the final season stats for Mackenzie Hoelting. She was named GAC North Player of the Year.
“Mackenzie has been a valuable piece to our program the last four years,” said Coach Zach Sheets. “Mackenzie has been a leader for us and her success individually and as a team is a testament of what you can accomplish through hard work.”
Winfield finished with a 20-7 overall record and won the division with an 8-0 record.
Mackenzie Peter, of Fort Zumwalt South, was the Central Division Player of the Year.
