Lakeway Publishers buys NEWSTIME in Lake Saint Louis to better serve area
It began as a suggestion from a friend at a social gathering, moved to an arduous task in an unused corner of a basement and then developed into a newspaper serving the growing Lake Saint Louis area.
NEWSTIME has a rich history, thanks to Carol Clark and her family, and this past week she passed the torch to Lakeway Publishers of Missouri, Inc.
“We are extremely pleased that Carol chose Lakeway to purchase the newspaper and continue the journalism and advertising services that NEWSTIME provides to this great area,” said R. Jack Fishman, president of Lakeway Publishers.
“Carol and her family have provided the journalism fortitude through the past 30 years to develop this newspaper into one which not only provides news and advertising to its readers, but binds the community in service and trust.”
Clark was at a Christmas party in 1981 when the mayor asked her if she knew of anyone who would be interested in reviving a dormant Lake Saint Louis newspaper. Her husband had lost his job due to corporate restructuring a few months earlier. The wheels began turning and a few months later, countless hours and the borrowing of used equipment resulted in the first NEWSTIME issue in June of 1982. The publication began as a monthly newspaper. The newspaper continued to grow, moved out of the basement, and for a number of years has been located at 11102 Veterans Memorial Parkway. Service expanded during the years to include the Wentzville area.
Walt Gilbert, vice president of Lakeway Publishers of Missouri this week announced that Michael Short has been named general manager for NEWSTIME. He also serves as manager of the Elsberry Democrat one of Lakeway’s 11 newspapers in Missouri.
“We are very excited about continuing the services that NEWSTIME has provided for three decades,” said Short. “Obviously we feel the area served by NEWSTIME fits well into our Missouri group of newspapers.
Tim Hager will continue in graphics for the newspaper and Cindy Kaus is serving as receptionist and typesetter.
NEWSTIME’S’ sister paper, The Lincoln County Journal located in Troy, also serves the area. Other Lakeway newspapers in Missouri are located in Elsberry, Louisiana, Bowling Green, Vandalia, Centralia, Monroe City, Hermann and New Haven.
Lakeway also has newspapers in Tennessee and Virginia.
