The annual Christmas open house at the Schowengerdt House in downtown Warrenton will be Friday and Saturday evenings, November 30 and December 1.
Festive trees, garlands, floral arrangements, and Christmas decorations will fill the rooms in the Victorian Schowengerdt House. Guests are invited to delight in the ambiance of the decorated 1866 home from 5 to 9 p.m. both evenings. Docents will be available in each room to answer questions, and all guests will receive a baked sweet treat.
Saturday morning from 9 – 12 noon, children are invited to have their photo taken with Santa in the parlor of the home. The cost is $1, plus the donation of a nonperishable food item to be donated to the Agape Food Pantry.
The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is filled with the furnishings and personal effects of the Schowengerdt family. The family operated a merchandise store on Main Street for many years and family members were active in local civic and educational organizations. At one time, three generations of the family live in the home.
