Monday, Nov. 26 was a great night for the Silex Owls as they hit the road to take on the North County Christian Crusaders and gained a 56-46 win.

According to Owls Head Coach Chad Twellman, it was a different environment than we’re used to but they got the season started off right with hard nose defense and plenty of hustle.

“Our defense was smothering, looked very disciplined and quick,” said Twellman. “We held their leading scorer from last year to two points and Augie Martin, James Lasater, Joey Rau-Massey, Austin Fleming and Matt Huber gave us great energy and effort on defense with a total of 14 steals.”

Ryan Eisenbath led the Owls in scoring with 19 points, while Massey hit 12 off the bench. According to Twellman, Fleming had a great game all the way around as he got two assists from a triple double.

Going forward though, Twellman said he would like to see them value the ball more, especially late in the game with a 10-point lead.

“Twenty turnovers is way too many and we need to clean up our offensive continuity. But all in all it was a great start to the 2012-2013 season,” said Twellman.  “I was extremely satisfied with our guys.”
