Dr. Robert S. Reeves, Chiropractor, conducted a scoliosis screening for fifth and sixth graders in the Silex School District with Marlene Lewallen, Silex’s school nurse. Dr. Reeves explained that scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine and approximately 90 percent is idiopathic, meaning no known cause. He noted that scoliosis occurs in approximately two percent of females and one percent of males, and can show a familiar incidence. He said the age of fifth and sixth grade students is the time the signs usually first appear. If left untreated it can produce many health complications including degenerative joint disease, musculoskeletal disease and in severe cases, scoliosis can affect cardiopulmonary function.
Dr. Reeves was instrumental in initiating an annual scoliosis check, and has donated his time and service for this important screening in Silex schools for over 20 years.
Dr. Reeves has maintained his Chiropractic practice for the last 37 years in the Berk Building, 101 West College, Troy, Mo. He was commended for his depth and breadth of community service with a certificate from the Missouri House of representatives honoring his personal and professional accomplishments.
