Winfield holds onto the lead against the Bobcats

The Winfield Warriors held the Bowling Green Bobcats for a 61-56 win on Dec. 4, 2012.

Aaron Aubuchon drives to the basket to put up two points for the Warriors.

“I thought we struggled, some of it was us, most of it was them.  We are still a relatively young team,” says Winfield’s Head Coach Chuck Arnold.

Winfield Junior Dave Bauer led the way with a season high of 29 points on 11-13 shot attempts. 7-9 attempts were three points. Winfield Jr. Aaron Aubuchon followed Bauer in the leader board with 13 points. Bauer and Aubuchon were named GAC All-Tournament for basketball before the game.

At the half, Winfield led Bowling Green 35-26. They maintained the lead in the third, then Bowling Green pushed back, putting up 17 points in the fourth to Winfields 12. Winfield held off their offense and came away with the win of 61-56.

“Four of our top eight players are first year varsity (sophomores). We played just good enough to win, which is better than the alternative. Bowling Green is a well-coached, physically tough, and improved team.  They always give us fits, just like last night. I thought in the last four minutes, we were not perfect, but played well enough. Our needle is pointing up, and as our bench gets more seasoning they will continue to grow,” says coach Arnold.
