First Silex Alumni basketball tournament show skills still there for former players

Many former boys and girls, now men and women, returned recently to help raise funds for the current sports programs.

A fun time was had by all who participated in and attended the first annual Silex Alumni Basketball tournament. Over 500 spectators and players filled the Silex gym on Saturday, Dec. 8 for the event hosted by Silex Booster Club and sponsored by Mustang Sally’s.

The returning alum spanned over 34 years and made for some very exciting, “edge-of-your-seats” basketball games. High scorers for the day were Jessica Stanek, Class of 2002, for the women’s division, and Michael Mudd, Class of 2008 and Jim Williams, Class of 2008, tying for the men’s division. Also returning to the gym floor to entertain the crowd were several alum cheerleaders and of course, the recently retired Owlbert mascot.

Silex PTO entertained the young and the young at heart with “Breakfast with Santa” that morning as well. Christmas cheer filled the cafeteria and there were plenty of activities and goodies for all who attended.

Many thanks go out to sponsor Mustang Sally’s, Sylvia Roper – owner of MS Printz who did the wonderful event t-shirts, the participants, the volunteers, the After-Prom committee for the concessions, PTO, O’Keefe’s for the after-party, and everyone else that made this day the huge success that it was.  Next up, Silex Booster Club Trivia night, Feb. 23, 2013. Hope to see you there!
