The American Legion Single A team takes first place in tournament

The American Legion Single A Team won first place in the St. Charles Memorial Day Wood Bat Tournament. There were nine teams in the tournament to compete against. They played five games with results as follows: 13-3 win over Lemay, 5-5 Tie with St. Charles, 3-2 win over Jerseyville, 15-4 win over Maryland Heights, 10-6 win over St. Peters for the Championship.   • Owls earn post-season baseball honors

    Members of the Silex Owls baseball team earned post-season honors this past spring, according to Chad Twellman, head coach. Wyatt Groshong and Matt Huber were named to the first team all-district team; Austin Fleming to the second team with Augie Martin and Ryan Eisenbath receiving honorable mention.

  • Kiwanis golf tournament attracts over ninety golfers

    A sunny, warm and humid day greeted the golfers in the 22nd Annual Troy Kiwanis Club/Foundation Golf Tournament held May 18 at Woods Fort Country Club. Thirty-one teams entered the three-person scramble event. More than 90 individuals and businesses participated as hole sponsors and/or donors for this fundraiser. Members of the Key Club from Troy Buchanan High assisted the cooks with preparing lunch (grilled hot dogs, chips and a drink)

  • Teens making a mess to stay clean

    The Lincoln County Drug and Alcohol Reduction Team (DART) hosted the first annual mud volleyball tournament “spike the ball and not the Punch” on Thursday, May 23 at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. The event was a huge success with approximately 176 students competing in the event, 42 volunteers, and approximately 500 people attending.   • Shelby Meyer completes season

    The Westminster College softball team placed second in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) and second at the SLIAC Softball Tournament. The Westminster Blue Jays defeated Spalding University and Eureka College in the SLIAC Tournament to face Fontbonne University in the championship game. Fontbonne defeated the Blue Jays 9-1.
