Troy teams earn split, district begin this week

As the Troy Buchanan High teams begin districts in basketball this week, both teams experienced positive vibes in recent games. In boys’ action, the Trojans lost 62-55 to Francis Howell Central but bounced back to post a 5-47 win over Francis Howell North. Adam Mennemeyer and Brandon Bassham continue to lead offensively as they scored 20 and 16 points respectively against Howell Central. They led with 13 and 12 points

  • Place in state wrestling

    Winfield state wrestlers

    Two wrestlers from Winfield High School placed at the recent state wrestling tournament held in Columbia. They were (from left): Tyler Moon, Coach Bruce Payne and Kai Rogers. Moon finished third in the 106 pound weight class and finished his season with a 49-2 record. Rogers finished sixth in the 120 pound weight class and finished his season with a 44-8 record.

  • Troy girls team honored on 30-year anniversary finishing state runners-up

    Thirty years ago (1985), the girls’ basketball team from Troy Buchanan advanced further than any other girls’ team had done. They finished second in the Class 3A state tournament that spring.     The Winfield Lady Warriors and Warriors have lost recent games. In the girls’ games, they lost 57-38 to Warrenton and 49-29 to Fort Zumwalt North. In the Warrenton game, Libby Marko and Peyton Ward led Winfield with 11 and 10 points each. Olivia Ward led in rebounds with eight and had six assists.     Winfield and Troy Buchanan were represented in the 2015 state wrestling tournaments held in Columbia. The top four wrestlers in each weight division advances to state.
