In basketball this weekend, the Troy Buchanan High teams split Winter Homecoming games hosting Fort Zumwalt West. The girls lost 50-24. Alyssa Rivera led Troy with 16 points.  Moe led West with 19 points.  West jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the first period and never trailed.  Troy won the boys’ game 51-48.     Adam Mennemeyer scored over 30 points for Troy Buchanan in consecutive games.

    Several area basketball teams were in action over the weekend. Highlighting the action was the Elsberry Indians traveling to Columbia to compete in the MFA Exchange Classic. The Indians lost to Versailles 50-45. Three Indians finished in double figures led by Terrez Blair with 13 points followed by Rodney Chatman (12 pts.) and Kyle Rimel (11 pts.).     2015 St. Charles Invitational Results for Winfield High school. 106 – Tyler Moon (26-1) placed 1st and scored 28 team points. Round 1 – Moon received a bye () (Bye). Quarterfinal – Moon won by fall over Brian Thornton 18-12 (Fall 1:31).Semifinal – Moon won by fall over Dylan Patton 19-10 (Fall 6:00). 1st Place Match – Moon won by fall over Jacob Williams (Troy Buchanan) 28-7 (Fall 1:10).     2015 St. Charles Invitational Results for Troy Buchanan. The meet was held Jan. 17 and 18. 106 – Jacob Williams (28-7) placed second and scored 20 team points. Champ.     Elsberry’s varsity boys basketball team may be in the midst of a rebuilding year but they have made their presence felt lately against some very tough teams.   • Three lead for Winfield

    Winfield competed in the GAC tournament at St. Charles West, Saturday January 10 and placed 11th out of 16 schools. They were led by (from left): Kai Rogers, 3rd, 126 lbs., Tayler Nicholson, 2nd, 170 lbs. and Tyler Moon, 3rd, 106 lbs. It is the only tournament where every school in the GAC competes in a single tournament.
