The American Legion Single A Team won first place in the St. Charles Memorial Day Wood Bat Tournament. There were nine teams in the tournament to compete against. They played five games with results as follows: 13-3 win over Lemay, 5-5 Tie with St. Charles, 3-2 win over Jerseyville, 15-4 win over Maryland Heights, 10-6 win over St. Peters for the Championship. The Troy Baseball and Softball Association held their annual event at Busch Stadium on Sunday, June 2. This year they opted for a Sunday day game as opposed to years past when the game was in the evening. Members of the Silex Owls baseball team earned post-season honors this past spring, according to Chad Twellman, head coach. Wyatt Groshong and Matt Huber were named to the first team all-district team; Austin Fleming to the second team with Augie Martin and Ryan Eisenbath receiving honorable mention.
A sunny, warm and humid day greeted the golfers in the 22nd Annual Troy Kiwanis Club/Foundation Golf Tournament held May 18 at Woods Fort Country Club. Thirty-one teams entered the three-person scramble event. More than 90 individuals and businesses participated as hole sponsors and/or donors for this fundraiser. The American Legion Single A Baseball Team from Elsberry Post #226 has taken another Championship at the Kickapoo Springfield Tournament. It was an eight team tournament. The 4×800 meter relay team at Troy Buchanan High School placed eighth at the recent Class 4 state track meet but their time of 9:41.65 set a new school record. Silex athletes competed in the state track meet (Class 1) May 17-18 held in Jefferson City. Junior Marcie Norton placed sixth in the Shot Put. Senior Augie Martin placed sixth in the 200 meter dash and eighth in the 100 meter dash.
