Lady Warriors’ losing streak snapped with shutout

On April 10, Winfield hosted Lutheran St. Charles. Unfortunately, Winfield’s frustrations continued, as they lost the game by a final score of 5-0 allowing two goals in the first half, and three more in the second half. The only statistic of note for Winfield came from sophomore Olivia Jordan, who played 75 minutes as Winfield’s goalkeeper, making 18 saves in the effort.     Both Troy Buchanan and Winfield have had recent games in high school baseball. In a game with Wentzville Holt, the Trojans held two leads before Holt rallied in the late innings for a 7-4 win. Troy’s Branden Bennett and Tyler Feith drove in two runs apiece with Bennett hitting a double and triple. Dylan Hunt was one of four pitchers used by the Trojans and was charged with the loss.

  • MDC reports new cases of CWD in deer

    The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reports that 11 new cases of Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) have recently been found in deer harvested in Macon, Adair, and now Cole counties. A buck harvested near the village of Centertown in Cole County is the first case of the disease to be found outside of the Department’s six-county CWD Containment Zone of Adair, Chariton, Linn, Macon, Randolph, and Sullivan counties.   • MDA releases poultry quarantine

    The Missouri Department of Agriculture announced today that, after extensive surveillance & testing, quarantine zones affecting the movement of poultry & poultry products within 6.2 miles (10 km.) of the facilities in Moniteau and Jasper Counties have been released. One month ago, the Missouri Department of Agriculture confirmed that turkeys at grower facilities in Jasper and Moniteau Counties, had been infected with H5N2 avian influenza.     Winfield lost 3-2 to Clopton in high school baseball. The Hawks scored the winning run in the fifth inning. The Warriors had five hits in the game led by Ryan Palmer (2/3), Josh Cook, Damian Cagle and Jake Freeman had one hit each. Chandler Hollingsworth was charged with the loss.   • First girls’ soccer win in Elsberry history, boys lose to Festus, Winfield in baseball

    At the start of last year’s Lady Indians soccer season Head Coach Hector Bencomo stated that he and his team were determined to score at least one goal. After enduring the previous season in which the team was unable to record a win or even score a single goal, their determination to put at least one point on the board in 2014 may have seemed a lofty dream to some.
