    Winfield boys soccer played a tough game against St. Charles West in scorching heat and lost 11-1. After suffering that loss, the Warriors bounced back early in their game against Canton with an early goal by Captain Brock Ziegiemeier. They lost 3-1.     After opening their softball season with a 13-2 loss to Louisiana, the Elsberry Lady Indians began a busy schedule. Elsberry first squared off against Bowling Green at home on Sept. 2. The Lady Bobcats were firing on all cylinders and defeated the Lady Indians by a final score of 12-1. “We need to shore up some important areas on the field,” said Head Coach Chad Twellman.   • Week three of football season not kind to county teams

    Trojan defenders swarm inside tackling Fort Zumwalt North’s Brenden Pierce in Troy’s loss.

    All three county football teams fell short on the gridiron in recent games. Troy Buchanan fell 56-0 to unbeaten Fort Zumwalt North Saturday afternoon. Lightning Friday forced the game back a day. The Panthers built a 42-0 lead by halftime and added two more TDs in the third period enroute to the win. Panther quarterback Brenden Pierce used his legs early, scoring on rushes on FZN’s first three offensive series.

    Troy Buchanan High posted several outstanding efforts, leading them to the championship in their Leadoff Classic softball tournament. In their first game, Troy posted a 16-1 win over Winfield. The Warriors’ only score came when leadoff hitter Olivia Ward hit the ball down the right field line and rounded the bases for an inside-the-park home run.   • Trojans fall in volleyball

    Troy Buchanan High varsity have dropped two consecutive matches. However, the freshman team brought home the only win of the night for the lady Trojans against Francis Howell Central. The Varsity Trojans fell 15-25. In the first set, after making some adjustments to Central’s offense, Troy was able to battle to 23-25. Leading in kills; Stef Richterkessing with six, Emiley Cross four, Madison McLaughlin and Paige Carroll each with two.

  • Winfield volleyball starts season off on right foot

    The Winfield Lady Warriors began their volleyball season with a dominating win over Bowling Green (25-8, 25-13). Winfield returns seven players who saw major playing time last year so expectations are high.     Fort Zumwalt North successfully ‘protected’ their turf Aug. 29 claiming a 2-0 win over Troy Buchanan in the title game of the FZN Tourney. They scored in each half enroute to the win. The Trojans had defeated McCluer North 4-0 to earn a ticket to the final. Josh Phillips had two goals including the winner. Braden Rogers and Ben Krause also scored for Troy.
