The Lincoln County R-IV School District will accept declarations of candidacy from any person interested in running for a position on the School Board in the April 8, 2014, election. Persons interested may file at the Superintendent’s office located at 104 8th Street, Winfield, Mo. Filing will begin on Dec. 17, 2013, at 8 a.m. thru 4 p.m. and will continue Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Construction news brought smiles to faces during the Winfield R-IV Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 19. The Lincoln County R-III Board of Education voted unanimously to place a NO-TAX increase bond issue on the April 2014 ballot in their November meeting. Proposition KIDS, Keep Improving District Schools, will ask voters for permission to construct a second middle school for the district. On Saturday, Nov. 9, 11 students represented Sacred Heart School in Troy at the Regional Bellarmine Speech Meet held at Sacred Heart School in Troy. The Bellarmine Speech League is organized and run by a group of 20 plus volunteer board members. Every year a sophomore student at Elsberry High School is chosen by the faculty to attend the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference. This past summer Elsberry High School student, Madison Cleveland, was the Elsberry representative at the conference held on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau in June. Neal Burkemper was the guest speaker for Winfield’s Veterans Day Assembly. He is shown holding his prayer book which saved his life in the Vietnam war by shielding his chest from shrapnel from a grenade. When he was sent home to heal from falling out of his aircraft, he later received a package with the prayer book in it. Lodged 80 pages deep was a very sharp piece of debris.
