Sacred Heart Parish in Troy will be celebrating two important anniversaries this year. Sr. Mary Ann Fisher is celebrating 60 years as a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet and Fr. Tom Wissler will be celebrating 30 years as a priest for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.
Sr. Mary Ann has been pastoral minister at Sacred Heart since 1989. She began her ministry teaching at Sts. John and James Grade School in 1955. In the 1970’s, she served as pastoral minister at Holy Name Parish in St. Louis. She also served her CSJ community as director of ongoing formation at the St. Joseph Provincial House in the 1980’s. Sr. Mary Ann also served in Hawaii and Michigan.
Sister is always very busy visiting shut-ins, bringing Jesus to folks in the nursing homes, being chaplain at Lincoln County Hospital, officiating funeral services at the local funeral parlors and walking with people in their faith journeys. She is proud to be a part of the Troy Ministerial Alliance, an ecumenical group of leaders of many churches in Troy who work together to be Christian witnesses to our local community. She is also involved with the World Day of Prayer, sponsored by the Church Women United, and “The Way of the Cross” each Good Friday. In 2004, Sr. Mary Ann was chosen by the Chamber of Commerce in Troy as “Woman of the Year” and she was also honored to receive the “Friend of the Auction Award” at Sacred Heart School. Sister has a gift for making each person she meets feel as if they are very special. If you have been blessed by knowing Sr. Mary Ann and wish to send her well wishes, you can send her a card at Sacred Heart, 100 Thompson Dr., Troy, Mo., 63379.
Sacred Heart Parish is also celebrating the 30th anniversary of their pastor, Fr. Tom Wissler. Fr. Tom was ordained a priest 30 years ago and came to Sacred Heart in 2002. He has also been assigned to Sts. Joachim and Ann parish, St. Dominic High School, Immaculate Conception in Dardenne, St. Francis Borgia in Washington, St. Joseph in Farmington and Ascension/St. Paul in Normandy. Fr. Tom began the campus ministry program at Lindenwood College in 1986 and has served in prison ministry in Farmington, Missouri. He has volunteered his musical talents for many years for high school musical productions and most recently for the “Sacred Heart Stones” (a soft rock band) that donated all proceeds to the St. Vincent de Paul Society to serve the poor in our community. The Archdiocesan Board of Education, the Annual Catholic Appeal Committee and the Communications and Emergency Parish Grant Fund are some of the committees on which he has served. Fr. Tom was instrumental in building the new Parish Center at Sacred Heart which includes a state-of-the-art gymnasium, indoor-outdoor concession stand, a new pre-school, and much needed classrooms. In addition to his duties at Sacred Heart, Fr. Tom has been assigned to take over pastoral duties at St. Mary’s Parish in Hawk Point to occur sometime in 2013.
Fr. Tom would like to thank all who have given him prayers and support these past thirty years. “The first 30 years of priesthood have been wonderful and if God has another 30 years in store for me in the future, so be it! God bless you all and thank you!” Well wishes can also be sent to Fr. Tom at the Sacred Heart address above.
