A Troy man has been charged with several counts of child abuse following a nearly year long investigation, in a release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

In September 2012, the sheriff’s office began investigating a complaint of child abuse. Investigators responded to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center in St. Louis after receiving a report from medical staff regarding unusual injuries to a three-month old girl.

Doctors told investigators the victim was suffering from multiple rib fractures, a leg fracture, conjunctival hemorrhage, bruised knee and back and abnormal liver problems; all of which the parents had no explanation.

During an interview the victim’s father, Mark Alan Bingle, age 25, told investigators he would place his daughter between his thigh and chest and forcibly squeeze her on several occasions. Bingle also said he could hear bones cracking in her body but thought it was her back.

When the victim began to cry, Bingle would force her face into a pillow in an effort to quiet the child. In addition, he confessed to forcibly placing the victim on the couch hard enough to “possibly” cause harm.

Bingle told investigators during the interview he suffered from anger issues and other mental issues. Bingle acknowledged he could have killed his daughter by squeezing her the way he did.

Bingle was arrested and charged with one count of Felony Domestic Assault in September 2012. In April 2013, Bingle’s bond was reduced from $25,000 to $500 and he was set free after posting bond.

On August 19, Bingle’s original September 2012 charge was dropped and the case was re-filed with the Lincoln County Prosecutor’s Office to include four additional counts of domestic assault.

The victim is recovering with her mother.

Bingle is charged with three counts of Felony First Degree Domestic Assault causing serious physical injury and two counts of Felony Second Degree Domestic Assault. He is currently housed at the Lincoln County Jail under a $75,000 cash only bond with no contact with the victim.

Those charged with  crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in  a court of law.
