Public works department employees with the City of Troy began demolition of the bridge at the intersection of Main and Annie in Troy on June 7.
Earlier this year, the city reduced traffic on the bridge to one-lane after inspections revealed the bridge had developed deficiencies after many years of use. No heavy trucks were allowed to utilize the bridge during that time. Last month, continued monitoring of the bridge forced city officials to close the bridge down completely for safety reasons.
Troy Mayor Mark Cross said the work is scheduled to span approximately three months, but they will make every attempt to shorten that time period for residents. The cost of the project is projected to be $500,000.
