Posted on Monday, June 10, 2013 at 9:13 am

Barry Sparks’ 1967 Pontiac GTO will be featured on the dash plaques for the Dam Few Cruisers car show to be held at the Vandalia Fairgrounds Saturday, June 22, 2013. Barry’s GTO is a numbers matching car featuring the 400 H.O. 360 H.P. engine backed by a 4 speed close ratio transmission with 3.90 gears in the rearend. The color is Linden Green and it has the wood steering wheel. Barry bought this car in 1998 in Camdenton. It is almost identical to a car he owned when in high school. Many people may not know that the GTO was designed by the famous automotive icon, John DeLorean.

This will be the 16th annual car show sponsored by the Dam Few Cruisers Car Club. The car club is a non profit organization with profits from events donated back to organizations in the Vandalia and surrounding communities. The club also awards an academic scholarship in memory of Ted Seeley to an area high school student who plans to pursue a career in auto body or mechanics. This year’s scholarship recipient is Jed Niemeyer from Bowling Green who attended Buzz Mendonsa’s diesel tech classes at the Eolia Vo-Tech school.

The car and truck show registration will be from 9 – noon with an entry fee. There will be drive thru judging with judges provided by the club. Club members display their vehicles but do not compete for the awards. A burnout contest will be held at approximately 2:30. You may enter the burnout contest without being a car show participant. Awards will be presented at approximately 3:30 p.m. Food concessions will be on the grounds featuring choice ribeye and tenderloin sandwiches. Please bring the whole family as there will be hot wheel races for the children. The public is invited to come out to the Fair grounds and view the show cars and enjoy the food and burnout contest. A limited number of T-shirts commemorating the show will also be available for purchase. For further information you may contact Boyd at 573-594-3465, Mike at 573-721-2295 or Barry at 573-594-3522. The phone number the day of the show will be 573-473-7795 and the event will be held rain or shine.
